Phase 1: Roof and Dome Repairs | Estimated Cost = $5 Million
Because the roof was leaking so badly, to the point that it could no longer be patched, BBB recommended to start with the roof and dome.
A stone restoration company was hired to make probes to help determine the extent of the damage and likely causes of the leaking.
Based on their findings, BBB created a scope of work and prepared detailed construction drawings which were put out to bid for proposals.
Scope of work on the roof, dome, and facade include:
- Replacing broken limestone slabs
- Waterproofing behind the stones
- Fixing or replacing the flashings as needed and pointing open joints
- Power washing and protecting the stained glass windows in the drum with an outer layer of clear glass
- Re-gilding of roof
